Woman burned as fire crews called to flat fire in Sittingbourne

A woman was given first aid for burns after firefighters were called to tackle a blaze at a flat late last night.

Crews headed to a property in Church Street, Sittingbourne at around 8.11pm after reports of an incident.

One fire engine attended and the crew tackled a fire in the living room of a ground floor flat.

It took just over an hour to put out the blaze and the emergency services left just after 9pm.

A spokeswoman from Kent Fire and Rescue said: "Firefighters provided first aid to a female occupant with a burn, who was advised to also self-present to hospital."

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but is believed to be accidental.
