Sittingbourne manager Nick Davis working to improve home form

Manager Nick Davis wants to get to the bottom of Sittingbourne’s home form this season.

The Brickies have won only one of their five league games at Woodstock, losing 1-0 to Littlehampton on Saturday.

Their return of five points at home in the lowest in the top half of Isthmian South East.

Contrast that with an impressive away record that’s seen them pick up three victories on their travels.

Davis’ men are at home again this Saturday, with Ashford United the visitors in a Kent derby.

They’ll need to improve on the game against Littlehampton, which was settled by Lewis Jenkins’ 28th-minute strike.

“It’s frustrating,” said Davis, with his side seventh in the table, having hit second place after winning at Cray Valley a fortnight ago.

“We just need to turn our home form around really.

“Littlehampton were much better than us in the first half.

“We came into it in the second half and should have scored, but we didn’t.

“We kept knocking at the door, the keeper’s made a brilliant save and we’ve missed a glorious opportunity to level.

“If we’d got the first one, I think we might have got the second, but we couldn’t get the first one.

“Littlehampton were a decent side, I was quite impressed, but from our point of view it’s a disappointing result.

“It hasn’t helped that we only had three subs.

“Jerry Puemo pulled out on the way to the game, so we had to change formation, but we’ve got some players coming back now.

“I don’t know what it is with the home form - it’s just one of those things that happens sometimes.

“It just so happens we’ve won three away from and only one at home.

“If we want to kick on we’ve got to change that and start winning at home.”

Sittingbourne welcome back Lewis Chambers and Alex Addai from suspension for the game against an Ashford side who sit third in the table.

Brickies are also hopeful of adding to their attacking options before the game, with Davis closing in on a new signing.

“It will be good to Chambers and Addai back and we should have a new player in, who will give us another option going forward,” said the Brickies boss.

“Every week we seem to have a different side out at the moment, I’m hoping to get a bit of continuity and consistency going.

“Ashford will be a tough game. They’ve had a lot of changes this season. It’s another derby, and they’re never easy games.”
