Armed police and dog unit in Allenby Road, Ramsgate

Two men have been arrested after armed police descended on a residential street in Ramsgate amid reports a man had been seen with a rifle.

Firearms officers and a dog unit were called to Allenby Road, at the junction with Newington Road and Stirling Way, at 11.30am yesterday.

A man is understood to have gone to an address and shown a rifle to the person living there.

The road was cordoned off in the aftermath and people were turned away from the area.

A 52-year-old man arrested in connection with a firearms offencehas been bailed to return to the police station on Tuesday, February 7, pending further inquiries.

A 67-year-old man street bailed on suspicion on cultivating cannabis after four plants were seized by officers will attend the police station later today.

A police spokesman said: "Police were called to Allenby Road, Ramsgate, at 11.30am on Wednesday, February 1, following a report that a man had shown a rifle to a visitor at his property.

"Officers have been sent to the area to investigate."

The scene is close to the Dame Janet Primary Academy.

A receptionist there said they were aware of an incident but that it did not involve the school.
