Officers remain in the area and a spokesman said enquiries are ongoing.

Inspector Keith Taylor said: "We are investigating reports that a man was seen with what is believed to be a weapon in Broadstairs this morning.

"We want to reassure people that initial enquiries do not indicate any specific threat or risk to the public.

"We would also urge people not to carry airsoft replica firearms in public as this can, naturally, cause concern."
