Biker seriously hurt in Westgate smash

A Westgate man suffered life threatening injuries after a serious collision between a lorry and a motorbike just minutes from his home.

The crash happened on the A28 between Hengist Road and Domneva Road at around 6.30am this morning.

A spokesperson for Kent Police said the accident happened when the lorry, heading towards Birchington, attempted a U-turn ahead of the bike, which then collided with its offside.

The motorcyclist, aged in his 40s, was taken to the QEQM hospital in Margate with life threatening injuries. He remains in a serious condition.

The A28 was closed for six hours while officers from Kent Police carried out initial inquiries into the incident.
