Boy knocked off bike in hit-and-run in St Peter's Road, Broadstairs

A 15-year-old boy has been left shaken after a driver knocked him off his bicycle and fled the scene - leaving him lying in the road.

Still in his wetsuit, CCTV has captured the moment he rides past the Four Candles pub and says hello to friends on Tuesday at about 7.45pm.

He was struck moments later after going out of shot.

His mum, Angela Mullin, described the "scary ordeal", which has impacted her son's confidence.

"He was about two minutes from home," the 44-year-old said. "The next minute, this silver car was coming quite fast up the road.

"Marco said just as he could hear a car driving fast behind him, he was on the floor - it happened so fast for him."

The driver failed to stop, leaving Marco injured in the road next to the bike.

Mrs Mullin says the wing mirror of the car was knocked off in the collision.

Marco has been left covered in bruises but escaped serious injury.

"He is OK - but he has lost confidence," his mum added.

"I think he can’t believe someone wouldn’t stop and help him."

A police spokesman said they were called at 8.10pm to reports of a non-injury collision between a silver car and a cyclist.

"It is reported the car failed to stop at the scene and officers are conducting initial inquiries to establish the circumstances," they said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police quoting reference 14-1480.
