Dreamland fire: Margate theme park confirms blaze close to seafront attraction

Fire crews have been called after a fire at a car park near Dreamland this evening.

Fears for the theme park on Margate seafront were raised after plumes of black smoke were rising into the air at around 9.30pm.

But it has been confirmed the fire was not in the park itself but in the Arlington car park in All Saints Avenue.

A Dreamland spokesman said no guests were affected by the blaze which broke out after visitors had left and the gates were closed.

They said: "We can confirm that a small fire occurred in Arlington Car Park late this evening, next to Dreamland Margate’s main park. The fire was contained to the car park and occurred after our park had closed and guests had left.

"The fire service arrived promptly to tackle the fire, and it was brought under control swiftly and has now been extinguished.

"There were no reported injuries and no damage to park equipment during this time. The cause of the fire is currently unknown."

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman says information suggests the blaze "was close to but not on the Dreamland site".

The venue says it will be open as normal again tomorrow.

A park spokesman added: "We would like to thank all of the Thanet residents who sent us such swift messages of support and concern – the park and the team are fine, and we will be open as usual tomorrow!”
