Firefighters battle blaze at Reclamet in Birchington

Firefighters have called in reinforcements as they continue to battle a blaze at a vehicle recycling centre in a coastal town.

Two Kent Fire and Rescue Service engines were called to attend the scene at Reclamet on Woodchurch Rd, Birchington at 7.29 a.m.

But hours later, the brigade is still fighting flames has now called in additional crews and has cautioned people nearby about smoke.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Four fire engines are at the scene and crews wearing breathing apparatus continue working to extinguish the fire.

“People in the area are being warned to avoid the area due to smoke and road closure. Please check before you travel.”

Crews are still working to extinguish the flames and no casualties have so far been reported.
