Increased police presence at St Laurence Graveyard in Ramsgate after man attacked with noxious substance

Detectives investigating an attack on a man with a noxious substance in a graveyard say there will be an increased police presence in the area.

The victim was walking along Manston Road, Ramsgate, at around 8.20pm on Sunday, February 11 and had the substance thrown at him as he entered the St Laurence Graveyard.

Extensive inquiries have been carried out, including the review of CCTV.

Now police have launched a renewed appeal and are asking that anyone who walked through the graveyard between 8pm and 10pm on Sunday come forward with information.

Investigators believe there may have been people in the area who have not yet called police and could have important information.

The victim of the assault was taken to hospital after suffering burns to the back of his head.

Officers are particularly keen to speak to a man described as white, in his mid to late 20s, with short dark hair and glasses.

He was wearing blue jeans and a black coat with a hood and is believed to have walked out of the churchyard at around 9pm.

The man is not being treated as a suspect but officers think he could have witnessed something significant and might have information to help with their inquiries.

Chief Inspector Ian Swallow said detectives are also looking for any further dashcam or doorbell footage in the area from Margate Road, on to Newington Road and Manston Road.

“So please could you check for anything that may help officers with the investigation,” he said.

“Incidents like these are rare but we do not underestimate the impact it has on a community and as a result, an increased police presence will be seen in the area as we continue to carry out inquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 01843 222289 quoting reference 46/23590/24.
