Kent airport steps in as Gatwick runway is closed

Kent International Airport stepped into the breach today when the main runway at Gatwick was closed due to a hydraulic fluid spillage.

Four British Airways planes bringing passengers from Alicante, Amsterdam, Salzburg and Vienna were diverted to the Kent airport until they could continue their onward journey.

David Bell, KIA Commercial and Marketing Manager, said: "Our investment in new facilities and equipment, combined with our good weather record and uncongested runway, made us the obvious choice when these flights had to be diverted at short notice. We were delighted to help out."
