Margate crashed out of the FA Cup in dramatic fashion, losing 3-2 on penalties to league rivals Kingstonian in their second qualifying round replay last night.

Gate had held the K's to a 1-1 draw at Hartsdown Park on Saturday and travelled to Kingsmeadow knowing that a win would set up a third qualifying round match with St Albans City of the Conference South.

Iain O'Connell's side took the lead mid way through the first half when Wayne Wilson curled in a free kick, only for the home side to equalise in the 66th minute through Lee Hall.

The Blues' were dealt a blow in the second period of extra time when, with a penalty shoot out on the cards, top scorer Shaun Welford was given his marching orders for a second bookable offence.

The first five penalties were all converted but Margate's third was saved by K's keeper Rob Tolfrey.

Gate stopper Jamie Turner saved from Gomez Dali and Sam Clayton but Tolfrey blocked the visitors' last two attempts, ensuring the home side booked their place in the next round.

Margate return to league action this weekend when they travel to table-topping Sutton United. Kick off at the Borough Sports Ground is at 3pm.

Margate: Turner, Lacy, Osborne, Robinson, Ball, Keister, Wilson, Saunders, Welford, Kamara (Waugh 71), Grant (Sherman 96). Subs not used: Cloke, Groombridge, Winchcombe, Harrington, Pinnock.
