Budding young singers in Thanet have until the end of the month to take part in a competition to create a Christmas chart topper.

Primary and nursery school children will get the chance to make a professional recording of their version of I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers.

The contest has been organised by the walk to school department of the KM Charity Team in association with Independent Music Productions in Canterbury.

Simon Dolby from the charity team said: "We've provided a backing track and song sheet on our website, which children can download to help produce their own version. Schools can write different lyrics to go with the tune or use our amended version but you don't need to have backing music to enter."

Eight singing groups will be invited to IMP's studio to professionally record two songs. These tracks will be available to download for £1, with money raised going to charity.

The track with the most sales will be announced on Christmas Day and the school or group that earns the number one chart position will receive a free framed version of the single.
