The repairs are taking place from A28 The Square to Stone Barn Avenue.

According to an eyewitness at the scene, Duncan Forster, who owns Your World Financial Services in Birchington Square, “smoke was coming from a manhole” in the road.

Police and the fire service were also pictured in attendance earlier this afternoon.

A spokesperson for UK Power Networks said: Engineers are working as quickly as possible to restore electricity supplies to three customers in the Canterbury Road area of Birchington.

“A complex fault on an underground cable initially interrupted supplies to 27 customers between 9.12am and 10.10am yesterday.

“Engineers needed to turn off supplies to different groups of customers at different times to investigate and carry out repairs.

“Teams worked hard through the night and work is progressing to reconnect supplies to the remaining three properties as quickly and safely as possible. We apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused.”
