Marine Terrace in Margate reopens after SGN gas leak

A main road in a Kent seaside town has reopened following emergency gas network repairs.

Gas distribution firm SGN sealed off Marine Terrace on Margate seafront on Saturday "for everyone's safety", so it could carry out the repairs outside amusement park Dreamland.

The road was shut in both directions while SGN worked to rectify the issue, and drivers were diverted through the town away from the seafront.

The firm previously hoped the work would be finished by last night (Tuesday).

But a spokesman has this afternoon confirmed the road reopened in the early hours of this morning.

They said: "The road was safe to reopen in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday) following a period of resurfacing work after we carried out emergency repairs to our gas network.

"We’d like to thank Margate residents, businesses and road users for their patience and understanding while we carried out this essential work."
