Ramsgate boss Steve Lovell wants his Isthmian South East leaders to end October with back-to-back home league wins against Corinthian and Sevenoaks Town

Steve Lovell is eyeing maximum points as promotion-chasing Ramsgate end the month with back-to-back home league matches.

The Rams, top of Isthmian South East, are three points ahead but second-placed Chatham have a game in hand on them and Ashford, in fourth, have played two league matches less.

They won last weekend 3-1 at East Grinstead but a much-changed side lost 2-1 to Faversham on Wednesday in the Velocity Trophy despite substitute Jamie Coyle’s late effort.

This Saturday, bottom side Corinthian are the visitors to Southwood before the Rams host Sevenoaks on Saturday, October 29.

“The two games coming up now are ones, if we can take six points, we will be in a good position going into November,” said the Ramsgate manager. “That’s where we want to be.

“We want to be top of the league and stay there until the end of the season.”

Weekend opponents Corinthian may be bottom but they are now level on points with Faversham and Sevenoaks having beaten the latter 1-0 on Wednesday, and Lovell is warning against complacency.

“I know they’re bottom of the league but that doesn’t make any difference,” he said.

“We have to approach it the same way we do when we are playing all the other teams. When Sheppey came down here [and won 2-1], they were very good.

“So we have got to go back to playing the way we did last Saturday against East Grinstead where I thought it was the best performance of the season.”

Lovell made seven changes for their Trophy tie against Faversham - managed by new boss Simon Austin - but he was disappointed with their second goal, which saw Nathan Wood's free-kick go straight through the wall.

He said: “First half, we had three or four really good chances where we could have taken the lead, we could have been 3-0 or 4-0 up to be honest.

“Their second goal is disappointing, it goes straight through the wall.

“But overall, it was all right. It’s a cup game and, although we want to win it, the bread and butter is on Saturday and that’s what I was preparing for.”

One of their midweek starters, midfielder Callum Peck, has since left the club.

Herne Bay say their Kent Senior Cup second-round tie at Ramsgate will be played on Tuesday, November 15, 7.30pm kick-off.
