Ramsgate FC boss Lloyd Blackman admits a weekend off could benefit his players

The weather-enforced break could turn out to be a good thing for Ramsgate, says head coach Lloyd Blackman.

Rams’ game at Lewes on Saturday was frozen off and has been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 14.

Blackman had watched his side beat Molesey seven days earlier but later admitted it was their worst performance of the season.

He said: “A few of the players looked a bit jaded last week so maybe a week off has come at the right time for them, looking on the positive side.

“Although it’s not given us an opportunity to train, maybe a week off, considering how they looked off against Molesey, is beneficial.

“We’ve been restricted because of the snow. We haven’t been able to train at all this week.

“Although it’s a 3G surface, the frost underneath the snow can’t get out and it ends up writing off an all-weather pitch.

“We would like to have trained indoors but most of the schools in the area were closed, so it’s been a disrupted week.”

New signing Kyron Lightfoot could make his full home debut on Saturday when Ramsgate – who won 3-2 at Sittingbourne last night (Tuesday) – entertain Chipstead.

“Kyron has signed from Cray,” Blackman said. “He’s a player I like, he’s got fantastic technical ability and I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to sign him.

“He’s a player I want to feature with us next year and I’ve already had a conversation with Kyron about it.

“I don’t want to take my eye off the ball for the 10 games we’ve got left because we owe it ourselves that we do the best we can in this situation.

“It’s been a stop-start season for us. Although, in the bigger picture, the young squad have gained experience, if they can go into next season with a few decent results in these last 10 games, it does set us up to be in a better position.

“The games are now coming thick and fast, leading into the Bank Holiday week.

“It’s now about applying ourselves correctly to make sure we’re ready to tee ourselves up for next year.”

Two late goals in the space of a minute settled Tuesday night's Kent derby in Ramsgate's favour.

They trailed Sittingbourne 2-0 with an hour gone but Tom Chapman's strike gave them hope.

Liam Dickson equalised nine minutes from the end and Rams then snatched all three points courtesy of a goal from Aaron Millbank.

Rams remain 19th in Bostik South after winning back-to-back games for the first time this season.
