Firefighters rescue woman from flat blaze

A WOMAN was carried unconscious from a burning flat after her lampshade caught fire while she was burning candles.

The fire broke out in the bedroom of a ground floor flat in White Lake Road, Tonbridge, at around 6.40pm on Tuesday.

A burning tealight started the blaze when it set fire to a lampshade and then a sofa.

Though the woman was not injured by the fire, she suffered smoke inhalation and was discovered unconscious by firefighters from Tonbridge and Southborough.

The rest of the three-storey building, containing private accommodation, was not damaged.

Firefighters took around 45 minutes to deal with the blaze, and stayed until 8pm to make sure the scene was safe.

Nobody else was hurt.
