Appeal after two die in crash

POLICE are investigating a road accident on the Kent-Sussex border which claimed the lives of two teenagers from the Tunbridge Wells area.

Amy Donelan, 18, from Orchard Rise, Groombridge, and Anthony Clarke, also 18, from Birling Road, Tunbrige Wells, died when their Peugeot 106 was in collision with a Ford Cougar on the A268 Hawkhurst Road at Flimwell.

It is understood that Amy, who was driving the Peugeot, worked at Fenwick's department store in Royal Victoria Place, Tunbridge Wells.

The driver of the Ford, a 66-year-old woman from Rye, East Sussex, suffered minor injuries. The accident happened at about 10.20pm on Friday.

Sergeant Keith Ellis, of Sussex Police, said officers were keen to trace a nurse who apparently gave first aid at the scene but then left.

Sgt Ellis said: "This is a tragic incident involving the death of two young people. The investigation is continuing but we are still appealing for anyone who hasn't contacted us but who has knowledge of the incident to get in touch.

"In particular, we would like to trace a nurse who helped at the scene but left before police arrival, and also the driver of a white car which was behind the Ford Cougar and which did a u-turn and left."

Sgt Ellis stressed that the people were being sought purely as witnesses to the inquiry.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Senlac Road policing department on 0845 6070999.
