Baby dies after car hits tree

A BABY boy died and his mother and brother injured after a car accident on the Kent-Sussex border near Tunbridge Wells.

The four-week-old boy, who has not been named, was a passenger in a car being driven by his 23-year-old mother who comes from Tunbridge Wells.

She was travelling through Broadwater Forest from Groombridge towards the A26 Eridge Road when she apparently lost control of the vehicle on a right-hand bend. The vehicle mounted the nearside bank and collided with a tree.

The woman suffered a broken arm and shock, while her two-year-old son was slightly hurt. But her new baby died in hospital shortly after the crash which happened at about 6.15pm on Saturday.

Sussex Police are investigating and have appealed for any witnesses to the crash to come forward. They are asked to contact Polegate Road Policing Department on 0845 60 70 999.
