Two fire engines were sent to Grange Road in Tunbridge Wells just before 5.40pm yesterday after reports of smoke coming from a first floor bedroom.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman: "Upon arrival, crews wearing breathing apparatus carried out a brief search for people initially thought to be inside the property.

"There are no reports of any injuries and the cause has not been established."

Crews, wearing breathing apparatus, took on the small fire using high-pressure hose reel jets and a main jet.

A positive pressure ventilation fan was then used to clear smoke and fumes from the building.

The firefighters' task was completed just before 7.10pm.
