A Kent-based sofa manufacturer is the latest company to confirm it has gone into administration.

Sofa Workshop, which has an outlet in Tunbridge Wells, has been struggling to fill its order books in the current downturn in the property market.

It was revealed earlier this month that the company, which specialises in bespoke, handmade sofas, was on the brink of going into administration.

On January 8, marketing director Paul Staden told The Independent newspaper: "Sofa Workshop has filed intent to appoint an administrator as a protective measure while discussions continue to refinance the business."

The company's website was unavailable on Friday afternoon. Reports suggest administrators are looking at an offer to buy the business, which employs 170 staff across 30 UK stores.

The news follows the collapse of rival firm Land of Leather.
