2017 World Custard Pie Championships in Coxheath

One of the world's biggest food fights takes place in Kent today.

Thirty-four teams have signed up for the World Custard Pie Championships, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Entrants had to be turned away so the event did not get too big, but anyone can come and watch proceedings and join in the family fun day being held at Coxheath from noon.

It started in the 60s with the help of local children’s entertainer Mr Pastry and has attracted TV crews and teams from around the world.

This year’s event is raising funds for Children in Need and around £250 has already been raised as part of an exhibition of vintage photos and memorabilia at The Mall in Maidstone.
