Gulbenkian Arts Centre in Canterbury to show Christmas films, including Home Alone and Arthur Christmas, on the big screen

Switch off your phones, grab your favourite festive treat and enjoy Christmas classics on the big screen.

This December, the Gulbenkian Arts Centre in Canterbury will be showing some of the best-loved festive films in a string of screenings.

From Sunday, December 4 to Sunday, December 18, families can enjoy films such as Home Alone, the Muppet Christmas Carol, the Polar Express, Arthur Christmas and It’s a Wonderful Life.

There will also be a sing-along screening of Disney’s Frozen, where audiences will be encouraged to join in with Anna and Elsa.

In addition to family-friendly Christmas films, there will also be a livestream of The Nutcracker, performed by the Royal Opera House, for Canterbury audiences to enjoy.

The festive ballet, featuring classical dance and Tchaikovsky’s well-known score, will be shown on Thursday, December 8 and Sunday, December 11.

During the festive season, the venue will also be putting on its own theatre show, Under the Frozen Moon, for those who prefer live performances over the cinema.

The production follows a brave young girl on her quest to face the dragon under the ice, who keeps all the fire and light for himself, to help her town and loved ones.

The family show features poetry, colourful sets, live music and puppetry and is suitable for children aged three and above.
