A holiday home in Whitstable has been rated one of the best rental properties in the world in TripAdvisor's first Travellers' Choice awards for Rentals.

St Michael's, which is in Montpelier Ave, Whitstable, won a place in the high-end category alongside holiday homes in Marbella, Bali, Costa Rica and Greece.

It can sleep up to 23 people and features a hot tub gym, eight-person barrel sauna, cinema room, pool table, trampoline and cocktail bar – making it perfect for a group stay.

Every year TripAdvisor holds their Travellers' Choice awards which cover several different categories including destinations, beaches, flights and hotels, however this year was the first time there had been a category for rental properties.

All of the holiday homes listed on the website were nominated and the winners were chosen based on traveller reviews and opinions, as well as customer service provided during the booking process.

The popular travel website awarded 30 rental properties from around the world, separating them into three different categories - high-end, mid-range and affordable.

David and Tatiana McCarthy have been running St Michael's as a holiday home for nearly two years, they were 'over the moon' to have won the award.

Mr McCarthy said: "When my wife Tatiana found that St Michaels was listed along the ten best holiday homes in the world, she started screaming like a child at Christmas!

"We are over the moon and so proud and honored to receive the award on the huge scale as this!

Mrs McCarthy added: "We are amazed at how popular St Michael's has become since we opened our doors to the beautiful guests!

"There are so many special happy memories that have been created here by them and already quite a few of our guests, many who actually live nearby, do come back and bring their friends and families from all over the world even as far as Australia and China.

Thank you all so much for rating us this high! We will try our best to sustain this quality as we work really hard and feel that we provide something unique in this beautiful seaside town of Whitstable."

A stay at St Michael's starts as £540 per night (minimum 2 night stay) for up to 12 guests, however you'll have to hurry as it doesn't take long for the popular property to become fully booked.
