Pedestrian hit by car in Herne Bay Road in Swalecliffe, Whitstable

A man has been flown to a London hospital after being hit by a car.

Police had closed Herne Bay Road in Swalecliffe, Whitstable, between Seafield Road and Burnan Road while emergency services attended the scene, but all lanes have now reopened and traffic is moving slowly in the area.

Officers had been pictured outside the Wheatsheaf pub, while an air ambulance landed on a nearby sports field.

Police were called to the scene at 8.12am this morning.

A spokesman said: "Kent Police is currently at the scene of a collision in Herne Bay Road, Whitstable following reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.

"The male pedestrian has been flown to a London hospital. The road is currently closed."

Stagecoach has tweeted: "Due to a police incident at Swalecliffe, we will be diverting all Triangle service between Priest & Sow & Sea Street (Herne Bay) via St Anne's Rd, Ham Shades Lane, Thanet Way & Greenhill Bridge Rd."
