It is part of an investigation into reports of beach hut burglaries in the town.

The teenager has been released on bail until May while enquiries continue.

Sgt Lee Thompson of the Canterbury Community Safety Unit said: "Following reports of break-ins at beach huts in the town, officers are continuing to investigate reports to see if there is evidence to link them to potential offenders and bring them to justice."

He added: "We urge everyone to remain vigilant, ensure beach huts are kept locked, and if anyone sees anything suspicious near the beach huts, to contact Kent Police via our website or by calling 999 if a crime is taking place."

The investigation hinges around a report that a beach hut in Whitstable Harbour was broken into and damaged between 4pm on Saturday, January 21 and 7.45am the following day.
