Police were called to the A28 yesterday afternoon after the vehicle smashed through a sign at the edge of the roundabout with Tithe Barn Lane.

The car sustained serious damage to its front bumper on the passenger side, while one leg of the sign was taken out.

Officers gave the driver a roadside breathalyser test, which came back as 104 microgrammes of alcohol per 100ml of breath – just under three times the limit of 35.
