Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler has challenged his team to be the ones to take League 2 by storm.

Just six points separate the top 15 clubs and nobody, as yet, has threatened to set the pace. Hessenthaler wants his men to be that team.

They travel to AFC Wimbledon on Saturday buoyed by back-to-back successes and at the 10-game mark, the Gills are just three points off the top of League 2.

Hessenthaler said: "It’s open and I don’t think there is an outstanding team in the league.

"The outstanding team would be the team which goes on a run of games and is consistent, a bit like Chesterfield did last year.

"I don’t think that will happen but I might be wrong. I would like to think we would be that team and we have to stay positive that we could be."

One thing Hessenthaler wants to see is his team keeping things tighter at the back. The Gills have failed to keep a blank in defence in their last six outings.

"I would like us to start thinking about maybe getting a few more clean sheets and that can only help us," said Hessenthaler.

"We are now banging a few goals in but we would like to keep a few clean sheets along the way as well."
