Hundreds of mourners are expected at the funeral today of a grammar school student who died following a road accident in Canterbury.

But the family of 18-year-old Sophie Harrison is requesting everyone wears something pink or purple, which were the teenager's favourite colours.

The Queen Elizabeth's school student suffered critical injuries after the Land Rover Discovery she was travelling in overturned in Rheims Way on Saturday, April 4.

The car, driven by a friend, was taking a group of teenagers into the city where they were due to catch a coach to London for an 18th birthday celebration.

Sophie, who lived in Beech Close, Faversham was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital but never regained consciousness and died two days later.

An inquest into her death has now been opened. The accident is being investigated by Kent Police and the driver and four other passengers will be interviewed.

Sophie’s funeral is being held at the Garden of England Crematorium, Bobbing on Friday.
