Jay Saunders ruled out a move for Jon Wallis after Maidstone’s 2-0 pre-season friendly win at Faversham on Tuesday.

United were linked with the highly-rated midfielder after he left Conference Premier Dartford this week.

But boss Saunders said: “We’ve got a lot of competition in that department with Michael Phillips, Danny Lye, Fabio Saraiva, Alex Brown and Lea Dawson, plus the academy boys.

“I did speak to Tony Burman (Dartford boss) at the end of last season when he said Jon might be leaving and if it had happened sooner, I might have been interested.

“He’s a player I’ve always liked but we’re strong in midfield. Unless a big centre-forward becomes available, I don’t think we’ll do anything else.”
