A 17-year-old boy managed to drag his friend from mud after he fell near the Command House pub in Chatham.

By the time the emergency services arrived on Sunday evening, at about 6.40pm, both were free of the mud and were taken to Medway Maritime Hospital by ambulance as a precaution.

Their current condition is unclear.

According to coastguards, after the boy was in the mud for twenty minutes, a friend waded in and managed to release him.

Police and Coastguard also attended the scene.
