British Army members put Oasis Academy Isle of Sheppey pupils through their paces

Pupils were put through their paces by army personnel as part of a team-building exercise for pupils looking to join sixth form.

An assault course was constructed at Oasis Academy Isle of Sheppey, Marine Parade, Sheerness, in an exercise designed to help youngsters focus, challenge and motivate themselves and each other.

The event, organised in partnership with Sheppey Matters, was held as part of a two week programme of activities to promote and develop a range of interpersonal and study skills.

The taster sessions were organised by subject specialists and a range of talks from visiting speakers were also held including by the University of Kent and Barclays Bank.

Pupils are being offered extra-curricular activities to add value to applications to university, apprenticeships or jobs.

In September, all sixth formers will be encouraged to take part in training for Dementia Friends and the National Citizenship Service.

Director of sixth form, Helen Curran, said: “The army assault course was brilliant fun and taught our students valuable life skills.

“We would like to thank all our external partners who have helped to make our Progression weeks such a success.”
