Ashes of loved ones can be scattered off the Thanet coast under a new business venture by the Ramsgate-based charter company Galleon Cruises.

Owner Dale Bradley said: “Many people, either for reasons of their faith or from past association with the sea, wish to have their ashes scattered at sea.

“We now use our 33ft cruiser Mona Lisa to sail from Ramsgate marina to a suitable spot offshore. She is one of the most comfortable and stable boats in her class, has an easy access platform on the stern of the vessel, fully enclosed covers and upper deck heating.

“When we reach our destination we turn off the engines to let the craft drift gently to the sound of the ocean.

"From the rear of the vessel you can scatter the ashes into the sea and any floral tributes, bouquets or other memorable items. People can bring any music with them to play on the sound systen as and when they want.”

The skipper will issue a date/time and position card to show the spot where the ashes were layed to rest.
