Armed police search after robbery Cheadles Chemist in Seasalter, near Whitstable

A suspect has been arrested after staff were reportedly threatened and medication stolen in a shop robbery.

A police helicopter and armed officers scoured Herne Bay, following the incident at Cheadles Chemist in Faversham Road, Seasalter, this morning.

Detectives are also searching a property in Boughton-under-Blean, after apprehending and taking into custody a 51-year-old man on suspicion of robbery.

A police spokesman said: "We were called to a report that a man had entered the business in Faversham Road at 9.20am and threatened staff before stealing medication.

"No injuries were reported.

"An investigation into the incident is ongoing and officers are also carrying out enquiries at a property in Boughton-under-Blean and a premises in Herne Bay."

A notice posted in the Cheadles window says it will remain closed for the rest of the day, before reopening tomorrow.
