It's been another fantastic weekend for our Unit! On Saturday, Leading Cadet Daisy Cole (Year 11) proudly represented the Unit during the celebration of HMS Cavalier's 80th anniversary at Chatham Dockyard, braving the windy and rainy conditions like a true Cadet. On Sunday, two of our senior Cadets, Able Cadet Toby Summers and Cadet First Class Jack Brook (both Year 11), teamed up with our sister Unit, Maidstone, to compete in the West Kent District Five-a-Side Football Competitionand they won! Unfortunately, there's no Area Competition this year for them to advance and represent West Kent, but their victory is an incredible achievement nonetheless. In other news, one of our adult volunteers has reached an exciting milestone. Ellen Askew, formerly of the Canteen team, has completed her onboarding and is now a Probationary Petty Officer. Well done, Ellen! Our Unit continues to move forward with great momentum, especially as we prepare for our Commissioning, provisionally scheduled for February next year. It's not too late to join this exciting adventure! We welcome both Cadets (aged 9–17) and Adult volunteers (18+). We are also seeking a Unit Stores Officer. This past weekend marked another incredible milestone for our Cadet Unit, as Daisy successfully passed her Leading Cadet Boarda fantastic achievement! The assessment was thorough, covering all aspects of her training to date. This included instructing and presenting to fellow cadets, demonstrating her practical leadership skills, testing her knowledge of the Corps, and a formal interview. Please join me in congratulating Daisy when you see her this morning. Becoming a Leading Cadet is a significant accomplishmentit is the second-highest rank a cadet can achieve, earned by only about 1 in 25–30 cadets. This achievement is another exciting step forward as we approach our commissioning in February next year. Our cadets paraded at St James the Great Church and East Malling Memorial for Remembrance Sunday. The also assisted in serving the tea and cakes after the service. They all demonstrated the Sea Cadet Values, which align closely to the Malling School Way and should be congratulated on this effort. We are now making a fantastic impression within the local community. Additionally, I undertook the role of Parade Commander at the wreath laying at Chatham Town Football Club before their game against Dover Athletic. Wings of Hope Charity Success Our fantastic sixth formers have worked incredibly hard to support the Wings of Hope Foundation, and their success was recognised at their National Achievement Awards Ceremony earlier this month. Over the past few months, our Malling Sea Cadets have had the fantastic opportunity to participate in a variety of water sports, including rowing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Many of them have earned new qualifications and skills through these activities. Congratulations to all for their hard work and enthusiasm, and a heartfelt thank you to the dedicated staff who made it all possible!

Community Volunteers On Wednesday 9th October a new group of volunteers from year 7 went out litter picking in the community. Our 3rd outing is scheduled for next week with more students from other year groups getting involved. Let's keep East Malling tidy!
