A former Ashford council leader has raised £500 for charity by abseiling down the City of London’s fourth tallest building.
Cllr Paul Bartlett descended the 538ft Broadgate Tower for the British Red Cross.
He quipped: “I wanted to go face-first starting with a swan dive off the top but the instructors wouldn’t let me.”
He added: “For the amount raised the abseil was worth it.”
Cllr Bartlett is an accountant for the central London-based British Land Company, which developed the tower in 2009.
The 35-storey skyscraper in Bishopsgate is the ninth tallest building overall in Greater London.
Cllr Bartlett was leader of Ashford council from May to November last year and continues as a Conservative member for the Weald East ward.
