A village has raised more than £1,500 for the daughter of a woman who died with cancer.

Sarah Wright, from Warehorne near Ashford, had been given special dispensation in April to fly to America for a clinical trial hoped to treat her breast cancer.

Unfortunately less than a month after being given permission to try the new drug leronlimab, the ex-Team GB skeet shooter died when her health took a "nosedive" according to husband Adam.

Last weekend, the village she called home clubbed together to buy a gift for her one-year-old daughter Everleigh.

Jessie Banach sold cream teas on Sunday and also created a Facebook event called 'Cream Tea for Everleigh', on which photos and birthday messages to Everleigh were posted.

These goodwill messages will be printed into a photobook for her to keep.

A JustGiving page set up by the mum-of-two has already gained £890 - smashing the initial £500 target - and altogether the event raised more than £1,500.

Miss Banach said: "It was a wonderful day for the whole community to come together.

"We sold over 70 cream teas for two - which was 300 scones, four huge trays of strawberries and 70 pots of double cream.

"We had donations of strawberries from Honeychild Manor farm, thick double cream from Plurenden Manor Farm, and tea from the Kent and Sussex Tea and Coffee Company in Pluckley.

"Ingredients for scones came from Kerry’s Kitchen in Lydd and we had a beautiful piece of art from Katie Parker in Hamstreet.

"I'd like to thanks Sarah's husband Adam for bringing along the star of the show for the afternoon."

She also highlighted the work of the village's bakers, who turned out in force to bake the scones.
