Cannabis plants worth an estimated £20,000 have been seized by police during a raid at a property in Woodchurch.

The discovery followed a search warrant at an address in the village last Thursday as part of a day-long operation to target the rural area.

Officers arrested a 44-year-old man and 15-year-old boy on suspicion of possessing cannabis with intent to supply.

They have both been released on bail until April 22, while officers make further enquiries.

The operation also saw officers arrest a 37-year-old Ashford man in the Kingsnorth area on suspicion of Burglary. He has been released on bail until April 25.

A 50-year-old man from Tenterden was also arrested after officers involved in the operation revealed that he was wanted on a court warrant.

Following his arrest, he appeared before Magistrates via Virtual Court on Friday to answer for a charge of possessing cannabis resin.

Inspector Andrew Judd from the Ashford Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "Although we’re out and about in the rural area every day and night, when possible we also find it useful to co-ordinate and join all of our resources together in big operations like this.

"It shows the community that we take their concerns seriously and leads to checks of people and property and information coming in which helps us to identify more suspects and reduce and deter more crime."

As part of the day-long operation, licensing enforcement checks were carried out at 11 pubs and off-licences across Ashford.

Officers also carried out road checks in Tenterden, Rolvenden and Kingsnorth.

In addition, Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) and KCC Rural Wardens spoke with residents in Rolvenden, Wittersham and Kennardington about any concerns they have.
