A German shepherd who was found abandoned in Ashford is looking for a forever home.
The dog, who is about four years old, was discovered outside Matalan, off Brookfield Road, and taken to Barrow Hill Veterinary Hospital, in Maidstone Road.
She was then picked up by Ashford Borough Council’s dog warden, who took her to the Lord Whisky Animal Sanctuary in Stelling Minnis, where she is now being cared for.
Her owners have not been traced due to incorrect information on her micro-chip.
Sanctuary founder Margaret Todd said: “From what we’ve been told she was abandoned outside Matalan.
“She has a micro-chip, but it is registered to a Staffordshire bull terrier.
“I don’t think people know what they do to an animal when they just abandon them." - Margaret Todd
“She has settled here; she is a lovely dog.”
Now, a new home is needed for Lily, the name given to her by the team at the sanctuary.
Mrs Todd adds: “I don’t think people know what they do to an animal when they just abandon them.
“The dog thinks it’s part of the family.
“I know there are some genuine reasons; people die or lose a home, but the majority of the time it is that people don’t want them any more, or don’t want to pay the vet’s bills.”
Also at the sanctuary, and looking for a home, is Douglas, a two or three-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier, who was also abandoned in Ashford last month.
Mrs Todd said: “He was abandoned and it has left him traumatised.
“Every time a car comes in he is looking out to see who it is.
“Even if his former owners told us some information about him it would help.
“A very quiet home is needed for him with some one with plenty of time to get that tail wagging again.
“He seems to be a very gentle dog and just needs his confidence restored.”
