After years of talk and almost two years of construction, drivers have been able to use Junction 10a on the M20 for a fortnight now.

The huge new roundabout in Ashford, which is costing £104 million, was first mooted more than a decade ago and opened to traffic on October 31.

It has been built 700 metres south east of Junction 10 and is linked to the A2070 Bad Munstereifel Road via a new link road.

Yesterday, the coastbound slip onto the M20 at Junction 10 and the London-bound off slip at the same junction closed permanently.

It has always been Highways England's intention to shut the slip roads as they have been superseded by Junction 10a.

By the end of November, bosses say the new Junction 10a London-facing slips will be open as only the coast-facing slips are currently accessible.

Last Wednesday, photographer Ady Kerry captured the scheme from above.

This roundabout on the A2070 Bad Munstereifel Road forms an important part of the scheme. It sits close to Sevington church and the Barrey Road Ashford Retail Park junction, connecting the A2070 with Junction 10a via a new link road. The new bypass lanes next to the roundabout are yet to open. In June, the new Church Road footbridge - pictured at the bottom of this shot - was installed a year after the previous crossing was demolished
The homes near Highfield Lane which were once obscured by trees are now exposed following the junction works. In the top left of this photo next to the Pilgrims Hospice, the 192-home Hinxhill Park scheme can be spotted, which is being headed up by Bellway Homes. On Junction 10a itself, the coast-facing sliproads opened on October 31, with the London-facing sliproads expected to open before the end of the month
Angry neighbours in Nightingale Close, Sevington, who live just a stone’s throw from the new roundabout, told KentOnline earlier this year how the ongoing roadworks are making their lives hell. Their homes, pictured near the bottom right of this photo, are close to the new Church Road footbridge.
