Armed police descend on scene after reports of men with 'weapon'

Armed officers and a police helicopter were deployed after two men were reportedly seen with a weapon.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing the helicopter in the air at around 5pm yesterday over Wye, near Ashford.

Following a lengthy search, the men were found and the offending weapon was discovered to be a BB gun.

BB guns are air guns designed to shoot small metal or plastic balls around 4.6mm in diameter.

The gun was confiscated, but neither of the men were arrested and inquiries are ongoing.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at around 3.20pm on Saturday regarding a report that two men had been seen with a suspected weapon near Churchfield Way, Wye.

"Patrols, including firearms officers, attended and a search of the area was completed.

"The police helicopter was also deployed.

"Two men were stopped by officers, one of whom was in possession of a BB gun which was seized.

"Inquiries are continuing into the incident."
