Man arrested in Canterbury Road after reports woman assaulted in Ashford high street

Police were called to a town centre this morning after reports a woman had been assaulted.

Officers say the incident happened just after 9.30am in Ashford high street.

A man was arrested in Canterbury Road at the junction with Heathfield Road

Five police cars and a police van were later spotted half a mile away in Canterbury Road at the junction with Heathfield Road, where a 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault.

The man and the woman are believed to be known to each other.

No serious injuries were reported.

The man remains in custody while inquiries continue.
