A van fire is being investigated as suspected arson after a man was spotted running away from the scene.

The Mercedes Sprinter was set alight just off A28 Canterbury Road, Kennington, with the flames spreading to another vehicle and neighbouring fence.

The burnt-out Mercedes Sprinter cab van was parked next to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

The 2023-registered van was parked next to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - a site which was previously home to Ashford fire station.

Witnesses say a black man in a grey hoodie and black trousers was seen fleeing the scene, but no arrests have yet been made.

The blaze happened at about 8pm on Monday evening, and was attended by two fire engines.

A police surveillance van has been parked outside the church since the incident, and officers are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.
