The final stage of the demolition of a block of former council flats, and prominent town centre eyesore, is expected to be completed this week.

Contractors from Durkan Limited and Ling Demolition Services have been working hard over over the last few weeks.

Now work has started on tearing down the last remaining section, alongside Hardinge Road.

All demolished material is being crushed on site.

The North Street building has been a derelict shell since it closed in 2007. Owners Affinity Sutton were granted planning permission to redevelop the site last year and plan to build two three-bedroom houses, 20 two-bedroom apartments and five one-bedroom apartments on the land .

Work is expected to be completed by spring 2015.
