Kent's newest bank has confirmed it will open on Friday, December 21, marked by two days of festivities.

Metro Bank's branch on High Street in Ashford has been under construction since August, with much of the work taking place during the night.

Finally, the interior and facilities being offered by the bank are being put in place ahead of its grand opening on Friday, December 21 and Saturday, December 22.

Craig Donaldson, CEO at Metro Bank said: “What a way to end the year. Joining the Ashford community is a milestone for us and I’m delighted that we’re bringing real choice in banking for local residents and businesses.

"Metro Bank is built around creating fans by providing the very best in service and convenience for our business and personal customers.

The lenders, who already have stores in Maidstone and Canterbury, are launching their new branch at 8am on the Friday, with a host of celebratory activities planned.

Throughout the unveiling party there'll be free manicures, face-painting and shoe shining, music, popcorn and dog shows.

The store - whose lease lasts for 25 years - will create around 25 permanent new jobs, and combine traditional face-to-face relationship banking with state-of-the-art technology.

The first British bank to launch in 150 years, the store will offer a free coin counting service, 20-minute account registration and more than 1,000 safety deposit boxes in-store.

Free events, such as networking sessions and family craft events, will also be hosted on-site.
