An investigation has been launched after an attempted scam to steal an elderly Folkestone woman's life savings.

A man claiming to be a police officer investigating a fraud case phoned the 77-year-old and convinced her to go to her bank to withdraw cash.

But before she made a withdrawal, bank staff raised suspicions and contacted Kent Police, who are now investigating.

Police today issued residents a warning about bogus callers and advised people to be aware.
