Canadian singer Ben Caplan is performing at Folkestone's Home Ground music venue in the Old High Street

Ben Caplan

A Canadian musician who has crafted a sound almost as unique as his appearance will be coming to Folkestone next week.

Ben Caplan, who hails from Halifax, Nova Scotia, is making a special guest appearance at a Creative Quarter music venue on Wednesday.

Caplan’s voice is at times reminiscent of the smoke-and-whiskey growl of Tom Waits, with perhaps an added honey sweetness.

While his music is firmly rooted in the blues, it’s branches often touch on tinges of Jewish Klezmer traditions and gypsy folk.

His dates across Europe and Canada have sold out time after time, and the chance to catch his performance at an intimate Folkestone venue, Home Ground, is one not to be missed.

A spokesman said: “Ben Caplan makes his third visit to Folkestone, and anyone who has seen or heard him before could not be happier.

“We are always pleased to welcome new musicians to play here and Ben has been a big hit.

“We make a habit of playing the music of musicians who have gigged here as it helps spread the word for them. Many people ask who is playing when his CD is on.”

Ben will be performing from 7pm on Wednesday, July 3.

Tickets, costing £5 are available in advance from Home Ground, in the old High Street, Folkestone, or on the door, subject to availability.

Support acts to be confirmed.
