Shepherd Neame says it is in talks about opening a new lakeside pub at the Conningbrook Lakes development in Ashford.

Contrary to earlier media statements provided by the brewery, bosses at the Faversham-based company say they are in discussions with Ashford Borough Council about opening a restaurant on the site.

The lakes development will see 300 homes built close to the Julie Rose stadium off Willesborough Road.

Little Burton councillor Marion Martin (Con) - who is on the Conningbrook Lakes Country Park committee - says she has worries about the scheme.

"I want it to be a success, but I am concerned," she said.

"I am not against people wanting to buy a house by a lake, but I do feel that the infrastructure for Kennington is already questionable.

"I wish it well, but the infrastructure has got to be improved."

From Saturday, off-plan buyers – who decide to buy a home before building has started – can start to purchase properties on the site.

The scheme, which is a joint venture between Westerhill Homes and Latimer Homes, will offer a mix of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes.

Construction of a show home next to the Julie Rose Stadium has already begun, and it is due to be completed by the summer.

A sales and marketing suite is expected to open on the site at the end of June.

An appointment only off-plan sales event will be held at Eastwell Manor in Boughton Aluph on Saturday.

The Conningbrook scheme is part of about 1,700 homes now proposed for the outskirts of Kennington, including 700 at the so-called Big Burton development and 625 off East Mountain Lane.

Developers are proposing a 300-space park and ride service as part of the scheme next to the Old Mill pub, which has sparked scores of complaints from residents.
