Policeman suffers 'broken jaw' after being punched in Kennington

A policeman has suffered a suspected broken jaw after being punched in the face in Ashford.

The officer was allegedly assaulted while on a call to a rugby club in Kinneys Lane, Kennington, on Friday night.

While at the scene of an assault allegation at about 11pm, officers became aware of an unrelated disturbance.

The officer went to investigated and was allegedly attacked.

He was taken to the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, with a suspected fractured jaw and later discharged.

A 30-year-old man, from Ashford, arrested on suspicion of assault has been bailed until October 4 pending further inquiries.
