A YOUNG man climbed onto a bus, punched the driver and tried to snatch his black cash box.

The attempted robbery happened as the driver pulled into a bus stop in the middle of Rothbrook Drive, Ashford, close to a steep set of steps leading to the bottom of Towers View.

Police say the driver, employed by Stage Coach, pushed the offender but was then punched in the face.

The offender let go of the cash box and stumbled backwards from the bus, falling onto the pavement. He then made off up the steps.
